Advisory

The years of adolescence (ages 11 – 15) can be a very rewarding time as well as a time of self discovery and struggle. Adolescence is the developmental transition to adulthood that includes rapid changes in the brain and body, often at different rates and is a time for healthy exploration of identity and learning independence. It can also be stressful or challenging for teens because of these rapid changes. Advisory is a regularly scheduled time when students have the opportunity to interact with a group of peers and a teacher-advisor. During this time, students build community, set goals and discuss topics such as decision-making and managing conflict. Advisory is also a time to check grades and complete work.
